Student Awards 2009
- Presented at the New Gardens Restaurant, Aberkenfig
The New Gardens Cantonese Restaurant in Aberkenfig, Bridgend once again hosted the Awards Dinner for the Bridgend Martial Arts Academy on Sunday 24th January 2010. Firstly may I once again thank the staff at the New Gardens for being excellent hosts and providing us with an excellent selection of wonderful dishes for the main meal.
Each year, the Bridgend Martial Arts Academy reward and thank the students of the club for their efforts, contribution and dedication over the past calendar year, 2009 was once again an excellent year for the club and its students who make the club so successful in its own right.
The evening commenced with Master Vivian Thomas greeting all the students and respective family guests before sitting down to enjoy the Cantonese cuisine, which I have already mentioned, was up to the usual high standards we have come to expect from the restaurant. Once everybody was well and truly satisfied from their meals, Master Vivian Thomas opened with a welcoming speech and the reason why we were all congregated there in the first place. Framed "Certificates of Appreciation" were presented to each student for their efforts and contribution during 2009 before moving onto the "Student of the Year"and the "Attendance" awards. This year the Student of the Year awards were split up into two categories, Dan grades and Gup grades, and the Attendance awards was split three ways, Dan, Gup & Tigers categories.
The Student of the Year awards are based on a point scoring system accumulated through the whole year, with points awarded for attendance at class, additional events, grading and tournament performance, amount of money raised if a charity event had been organised along with additional points available for assistance in teaching class etc. So, here are the results for 2009:
